Discover the legacy of the Lewis & Clark Expedition in a whole new way.
The journey to explore the Louisiana Purchase began just outside the Museum and Boat House on the banks of the Missouri River in St. Charles, Missouri.
Located in Historic St. Charles, Missouri, the Museum offers educational and engaging exhibits depicting highlights of Lewis & Clark’s exploration. The Boat House houses the full-scale, replica Keelboat and pirogues when they are not participating in events and re-enactment appearances.

Directions

The Boat House and Museum sit on the banks of the Missouri River in Historic St. Charles. The Museum’s street address is 1050 S. Riverside Drive on Bishop’s Landing. The facilities are conveniently located across a public parking lot at the end of Boone’s Lick Road as it meets S. Riverside Drive.

From I-70; Coming from the east:

  • Take exit 229B (Fifth Street North)
  • Turn right at the second stoplight (Boone’s Lick Road)
  • Shortly after crossing South Main Street, turn right into large parking lot
  • The Boat House and Nature Center is on the far side of the parking lot, next to the river

From I-70; Coming from the west:

  • Take exit 229 (Fifth Street)
  • At the end of the exit ramp, turn left (north) onto Fifth Street
  • Turn right at the second stoplight (Boone’s Lick Road)
  • Shortly after crossing South Main Street, turn right into large parking lot
  • The Boat House and Nature Center is on the far side of the parking lot, next to the river

From Hwy. 370:

  • Take the Third St. exit.
  • Go south on Third St.
  • Turn left at Tecumseh.
  • Turn right at Second St.
  • Turn left at Jefferson St.
  • Turn right at Riverside Dr.
  • At the south end of Riverside, turn left into large parking lot.

The Museum and Boat House are accessible to persons with disabilities and make all efforts to accommodate our visitors’ special needs. Located on the upper level, the Museum can be accessed by stairs or elevator.

St. Charles’ Historic District hosts over 1 million visitors each year from all 50 states and a multitude of countries. The Lewis & Clark Expedition was an integral part of St. Charles, Missouri’s history and continues to be central focus for visitors, students and tour groups.
